Perhaps you even heard your name being called, saw bright lights, images and visions or received jumbled words that made perfect sense within that moment, but the meaning was somehow lost in the next instant, processed by rational thought. And then you either let go of all sense of self awareness and floated into the dreaming world or were suddenly jolted back to reality by the slightest noise or eeek...a myclonic jerk!
Welcome to the threshold between two worlds, the twilight zone - not quite reality and not quite dream, otherwise known as the Zen or hypnagogic/hypnopompic state.
It is within this transitional state of awake and dreaming that the gateway to the unconscious mind is wide open in all its splendid glory.
This is your ticket to sheer genius as you now have the ability to connect with the universal mind pulsating with universal knowledge.
Whilst in this mysterious and wonderful realm, you may receive the ultimate solution to a long-standing problem, a flash of inspiration, a new idea, a breathtaking vision or a precognitive premonition. This is also the best time for self-hypnosis if you want to learn a new language, lose weight or give up smoking. The possibilities are limitless.
Buddhist monks and yogis spend years perfecting this state, as did Einstein who has repeatedly admitted that his inventions simply 'came' to him whilst drifting off to sleep.
So the next time you feel yourself falling, try to remain conscious for as long as you can, you may just catch a glimpse of your inner genius...
Happy dreaming!
