Working with images
The language of the psyche.
Images are the language of our soul or psyche. It’s our dream images that provide psychological nourishment and allow for deep connection to imagination.
This video delves into the importance of our dream images and explains why dreams don’t communicate their messages in plain language.
For Corbin, the bridge is ta’wil, the transformation of the sensory world into symbols, into open-ended mysteries that shatter, engage and transform the entire being.

For this shattering to occur, we must allow the images to overwhelm us. To accept the truth and what that reveals for us. Images are primal and beyond language, hence they have a deeper impact on us. Simply receiving the same message in print is not the same as experiencing the message. Dreams offer us experiences as messengers through symbols and metaphor.
In advanced dreaming we must work and view our dream images and presences as their own independent intelligence not to be colonised as sub personalities of our ego. For example, the sea monster is observed and experienced as its own being and not as our shadow self or inner child. We have not created anything new by taking on dream beings as aspects of ourselves. We want to learn from their wisdom.
Working with dream images in this way, in an embodied state, creates a strong response in our body revealing new information. We can absorb the wisdom of the images which triggers our body’s self-healing response.
